چکیده
Paolo Di Marco Walter Grassi Dipartimento di Energetica, Universit?~ di Pisa, Pisa, Italy • The purpose of the paper is to experimentally assess the effect exerted by subcooling degree and heat-up rate (i.e., the rate of increase of thermal flux) on the phenomenon of nucleate boiling in the presence of an electric field. To this aim, an experimental facility was set up to investigate pool boiling on a heated platinum wire of 0.2-ram diameter. The working fluid was R-113 (C2C13F3). A cylindrical electric field (up to 21 M V / m at the heater surface) was imposed. The power was increased along a linear ramp, at a rate ranging from 2.5 m W / s to 6 W/s. Subcooling degrees up to 22 K (Ja = 0.146) were investigated. The results of zero-field measurements are in agreement with previous ones in the literature. The effect exerted by the electric field consists mainly of a strong increase in critical heat flux, whereas, for a given heat flux, the nucleate boiling performance can be either weakly degraded or slightly enhanced. The critical heat flux was found to remain nearly constant with increasing transient velocity up to a given heat-up rate and then to increase with it. The effect of subcooling on nucleate boiling is quite complex but, in any case, quite weak in the entire investigated range. © Elsevier Science Inc., 1997

Experimental Study for Investigating the Mechanism of Heat Transfer near the Critical Heat Flux in Nucleate Pool Boiling
Heat transfer coefficient in nucleate pool boiling near critical heat flux at least one orderhigher than the convectional heat transfer modes. In this paper, an experimental setup isdesigned and fabricated to investigate the mechanism of heat transfer from boiling surface tobulk liquid near critical heat flux. The images of pool boiling near the high heat flux regionreveals that the individual ...

Pool boiling experiments were conducted with three horizontal, flat, silicon surfaces, two of which were coated with vertically aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The two wafers were coated with MWCNT of two different thicknesses: 9 m (Type-A) and 25 m (Type-B). Experiments were conducted for the nucleate boiling and film boiling regimes for saturated and subcooled conditions with l...

With the long-term objective of Critical Heat Flux (CHF) prediction, a Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) framework for simulation of subcooled and saturated nucleate pool boiling is developed. One case of saturated, and three cases of subcooled boiling at different subcooling levels are simulated. Grid refinement study is also reported. Both boiling and condensation phenomena can be computed si...

Nucleate boiling heat transfer coefficients may be strongly reduced by scale formation, even for conditions where the bulk foulant concentration is well below the saturation concentration. Due to the mechanism of micro-layer evaporation, the local concentration at the heat transfer surface can be considerably increased, causing the formation of scale and changes in bubble frequency and bubble d...
